Preparing Material For Editing

Logging on:

When logging onto a Mac, students will need to log onto 'mediae' and not the students personal log in. The advantages of having a shared log in is so that the memory storage is much larger than what a student has on their personal log in, it is also easy for all student to access and easily remembered. The disadvantages of having a shared log in is that there is a risk of the mac breaking where files may be lost.

SD Card Files, Where Projects and Files are Stored, Renaming:

Once loading the students SD card onto the Mac, you click on 'EOS_DIGITAL' and will need to copy all footage onto the Mac where the folder is called "private". You will need to copy this folder by going onto Macintosh HD, users, mediae, movies and then finally you will need to create a new folder and copy the private folders in your new folder. Once this folder has been copied, you will need to rename it with the date which the footage was taken and then this folder can be erased from your SD card to make room for more footage.

If files have not been copied over to the Mac, you will not be able to use that footage unless your SD card is imported.

Setting up projects:
To set up your project on Adobe Premiere Pro, you will need to create a new project and link it to the folder which you made in movies. A tab with the title of 'New Sequence' will then appear and you will need to assure that you use the correct settings which is seen on Sequence Presets - AVCHD - 1080p - AVCHD 1080p25.

Bins:

In Adobe Premiere Pro, bins are used to allow you to organize your project as it grows. It gives you the advantage of organizing your files into specific bins such as videos, audio, still images, etc.. which makes files much easier to find and use. Adobe also allows you to create a bin which is already inside a bin to obtain organization.

Also you will need to make sure you make a copy of your project in the new folder you created in movies on the Mac so that you have a back-up and so that you do not loose any of your project.

Paths:
A path is the directory of where your work is stored on the Mac from the use of your organization skills to make sure the files needed for your project are easily accessible.
